This section is designed to feature a selection of the many vehicles loaned to, or hired by, Provincial over the years. We haven’t been able to trace photos of every single vehicle with Provincial so, in some cases, we have substituted a view with its ‘parent’ operator. Also, where batches of similar looking buses (such as the Southdown TD Titans and West Midlands Metrobuses) were on loan at the same time, we have chosen just one as an example.

Further photos of loaned vehicles can also be found on The 1957 Garage Fire And Its AftermathProvincial Open Toppers and Provincial Coaches pages plus the People’s Provincial Gallery.

*HWU 641C mentioned in the November 1966 issue of Buses Illustrated as visiting the company. However, no records have been found of this vehicle entering service – may well have been inspected for evaluation purposes only

Dating from early 1939, this photograph shows AEC Regent, JML 784 at Blackboy Hill whilst on loan to Bristol Omnibus Company as a demonstrator. Later that year it was purchased by Provincial (Fleet No. 48), with whom it gave 25 years service. Photo: S. Miles Davey

East Lancs-bodied Leyland TD5 EUF 157 at Hoeford on September 25, 1957. It looks as though Regent 49 (KMD 306) may have sustained some fire damage.  Photo: Alan Lambert

Although not a loaned vehicle or demonstrator, we have included this photo of East Lancs bodied Guy Wulfrunian 35 VTF for its interest value. New to Accrington in 1961, it seen here at Hoeford in the mid 1960s whilst on hire to the Omnibus Society prior to the vehicle entering service with Ronsway of Hemel Hempstead.  One wonders whether the unorthodox design of this bus would have appealed to Mr Orme White.  Photo: PM Photography
