National Bus Company

4 (BCG 104J) Back to the early days, 4 in NBC red with Provincial fleetname. This is 31st March 1983 & the vehicle is actually still Hants & Dorset 1656, at least until midnight !  (presumably still with a H & D blind set, hence the lack of destination on Provincial route 7). If I recall there were at least 2 H & D buses in green before the takeover National 3604 (47) which had been rebuilt using most of a Plymouth National the previous winter and appeared in green & RE 1651 (79) repainted in green/white in March. Not sure if any of REs 1-9/11 which came back from H & D were still green or the livery on the ex Bristol OC LHs 87-9. (notes and photo Malcolm Audsley)
4 (C104 UHO) At Southampton bus station circa May 1986. 3 & 4 always carried green/white DP livery despite being to standard  bus specification. (photo: Malcolm Audsley)

48 nel107p_sd.jpg (99585 bytes) 48 (NEL 107P) If any prizes were to be awarded for the ugliest bus ever to operate for Provincial then 48 (NEL 107P) would be on the shortlist! This Ford A with Alexander 'S' body also proved to be troublesome in service, and was soon transferred to Alder Valley.   (photo: Stephen Didymus collection)

60 972cwl_sdcoll.jpg (84298 bytes) 60 (972 CWL) This vehicle was demoted to a driver trainer in late 1975, taking over from ex Red & White Guy Arab HWO 344. Despite undergoing extensive modification, 60 only lasted in this role until May 1977.  (photo: Stephen Didymus collection)
29 105cuf_sdcoll.jpg (78540 bytes) 29b (105 CUF) With the new deliveries of Leyland Nationals, ex Southdown Leopard 29 (105 CUF),was given the rather bizarre temporary fleet number 29b before its subsequent transfer to Devon General. (photo: Stephen Didymus collection).

Seen here in Fareham Bus Station in February 1983.  (photo: Stephen Didymus collection).
