Most Provincial buses up to the NBC takeover seemed to be scrapped rather than sold on for further use. This was sometimes carried out by the company at Hoeford, but also private scrap dealers were also used. These pages contain photos of buses either ready for scrap, or in various stages of scrapping, with some artistic licence to allow the inclusion of some related photos.

A line up of three buses in the process of cannibalisation and one boat! at Hoeford. From left to right are AEC Regents 1 (JX 7048), 2 (BUS 107) and 33 (ACN 172). Photo: G. Lumb

Seen at Fort Wallington breakers yard are 4 Provincial buses and one Hants and Dorset Bristol K. Just peeping into view on the left is what I believe to be 60 (EHO 967). I stand to be corrected , but I think this was the only one to have a side destination box in that position. Next are two ex Red & White Guy Arabs, and what looks like the prototype Guy/Deutz conversion 59 (EHO 965). Photo: F.W. York

AEC Regent 16 (ACN 167) seen here in West Street Fareham on tow to the scapyard in 1960. This vehicle was new to Northern General as no1167 with a Northern Coach Builders body in 1946 and was purchased by Provincial in 1957 as a fire replacement. Photo: R.F. Mack

The aftermath of the Hoeford fire on 18th June 1957. Two gutted AEC Regents can be seen here, No's 36, 37 (BOR 768,769). Photo: Patrick Miller

Park Royal bodied 38 (CAA 700) looks in a sorry state as she awaits her fate at Fort Wallington on March 1, 1967.  Photo Fred York

Seddon 44 (MHO 193F) was just 7 years old when this photo was taken at Hoeford on September 5th 1975. Photo: F.W. York

Purchased form Mansfield District , this 1955 Bristol LS/ECW was due to have been Provincial No.6 but was found to have a defective chassis. It was sent to a local scrap merchant a couple of weeks after this photo was taken in September 1970. Photo: Stephen Didymus

Can you guess what it is yet? Regent coach 69 (PCG 436) is just about recognisable  in this May 1969 photo at Fort Wallington. Photo: Bob Gray

A sad scene at Fort Wallington in April 1969 depicting AEC Regent coach 68 (OCG 444) alongside the remains of open toppers 18, 54 & 56.  Photo: Bob Gray

Ex Southampton Guy Arab 11 (FCR 452) almost down to the bare bones at Fort Wallington in August 1970. At Least three other former Provincial vehicles can be seen in the background. Photo: Bob Gray

A June 1970 line-up of 3 ex Provincial Guy Arabs at Fort Wallington. Nearest the camera is either 4 (JHO 129)or 5 (HOR 792); in the centre is a former Southampton vehicle (possibly 16 (FCR 441), whilst far right is probably coach-bus 60 (EHO 967).  Photo: Bob Gray

Fort Wallington again - this time in August 1970 featuring ex Red & White Guy EDG 975 (latterly Provincial 31), and VOR 339 which was a familiar sight in the Portsmouth area where it was used as a staff bus by John Hunt, the contractors.  Photo: Bob Gray

An early '60s glimpse into the Hoeford storeroom featuring long-term residents 62 (DAU 462) & 64 (ETV 778), both ex Nottingham, plus open topper 19 (JO 5403). Note the spare parts neatly stacked. Photo: Stephen Didymus Collection

A Leyland National observation coach? I don't think even Orme White could have dreamt this up! Actually the roof is from ex Southdown PD3 201 (AOR 158B) with the remains of National 397 (HTX 729N) providing an unusual storage unit. Photo: Richard Arthur Collection

Ex People's Provincial Leyland National 85/385 (NPD 134L) at an unknown location - possibly North's yard in Sherburn. Photo: Stephen Didymus Collection

The fire-damaged remains of Carlyle-bodied Iveco G248 GCC at Hoeford in July 1992. This vehicle was acquired by People's Provincial as a source of spares from Amberline Coaches, Speke.  Photo: Kevin Young

And finally, Slightly off topic, one of the few Provincial buses sold on for further use at this time. Guy Arab No 20 (KOR 462) was sold to Billingshurst Coaches on withdrawal in 1970. It is seen here after sale with its Provincial fleet number painted out. Photo: Arthur Syson
